Statement of Significance
These trees are an unique feature of the property providing a beautiful evergreen avenue (extending over one kilometre) that enhances it's surroundings by contributing such an iconic avenue of trees to the landscape.
The trees also commemorate a previous owner of the trees who as a soldier served in WWI.
History
According to records of the area the peppercorns trees in the driveway at Burnewang North were planted in the early 20th century to welcome back the young owner of the property who served in WW1 for 3 years.
These trees are a feature of the property and are a very significant part of its heritage and history. The property itself was established in the mid 1800's so many of its features are of significant historical interest.
An example of the Barn in attached photo 3 (also having aged peppercorn trees adding to the beautiful landscape background) was a Cobb and Co station - the skeleton of which has been carefully preserved and stands in it's entirety.
Location
The main gated entrance at the front of the property on Clarkes Road that runs adjacent to the Northern Highway approximately halway between Rochester & Elmore, Victoria.
Other
As caretakers of this historic property we will continue to do our utmost to preserve the important history told by various aspects of the property and its surroundings. It is of great importance that aggressive maintenance pruning by Powercor (with negligible notice despite requests from us) is taken with care and respect to these outstanding 100 year old trees.
