Statement of Significance

These trees are the only known examples in cultivation in Victoria. Unfortunately both trees have been overcrowded and have not developed an attractive form. <BR>A feature of the tree is the very large double-pinnate leaves, some up to 75cm long. Male and female trees. An oblong pod (8.3cm) is produced and the seeds have been used as a coffee substitute. Native to eastern USA.Jan 2013. Main tree has been removed. The Gardens are encouraging a number of saplings to grow from the original tree. In Jan 2013 the saplings were approx. 2 mtrs high.
