Statement of Significance
Located about 300 m from the Willis Tree site, this large single trunked tree occurs in a group with two others, one with a spiral trunk. The tree is the largest recorded. It appears the Willis Tree is no longer extant, however, two others occur in the vicinity but are smaller and less impressive than the measured tree, which is significant for its considerable size and outstanding form. The adjacent spiral trunked tree is of interest due to its unusual form.
Podocarpus lawrencei isnative throughout the high country, from southern Tasmania through to the NSW highlands. It grows on exposed sites to 1,800m, often forming living carpets over rocks through wind pruning.
The tree is located off Goonmirk Rock Road, 30m south of Goonmirk Rocks walking track. About 80m east of Aspen Battery Track sign.
