Statement of Significance
This specimen of Quercus cerris Laciniata Group or Cut-Leaf Turkey Oak makes a significant aesthetic contribution to the stately garden of Anlaby. It is linked to a prominent late-nineteenth to twentieth century Anlaby identity, his Head Gardener and their development of the historic garden and its tree collection. The hemispherical growth habit, ornamental cut leaves and seasonal silhouettes of this specimen are outstanding. It is a note-worthy example of this uncommon oak species variant. The dry and wind swept conditions under which it has grown highlights how suited this species of oak is for harsh environments.
This specimen is an outstanding variant example of the species. Its uniform and dense canopy is notable in dimension for this variant of the Turkey Oak. The Cut-Leaf Turkey Oak is not a commonly cultivated oak variant found in South Australia. Anlaby has a number of specimens of this variant on the property. The species Quercus cerris or Turkey Oak is also found on the property.
