Statement of Significance
The tree is an outstanding example of the species ,it makes an important landscape contribution to the garden of the historic property . It is associated with Sir Samuel Davenport founder of the Olive industry in South Australia . It is a great looking tree .
History
The tree is situated in the garden of historic Beaumont House . The house was built for Augustus Short the First Anglican Bishop of Adelaide who took up residence in1851.The house was sold in 1856 when he moved into the newly completed Bishops Court in North Adelaide to Samuel Davenport (later Sir Samuel ). He was a well known public figure and a keen promoter of agriculture and new industries particularly Olive culture and the Olive oil industry. He lived at Beaumont House until his death i 1906 .There is in the Public Library of SA a photograph PRG-40-138-2-91.jeg of Beaumont House labelled circa 1880's to 1900 which shows the tree .
